Growing Island Food Security

Land Statement: The Madeline Island Community Garden acknowledges that we garden on the land of the ancestral and contemporary Anishinaabe, home to the Ojibwe people. We affirm our commitment to support
community wide discussion and education about indigenous sovereignty and history, and to encourage respect for the stories and sacredness this land has for the Ojibwe people.

The garden offers a place for gardeners to grow their own food, as well as providing seasonal produce for the food pantry at St. John’s Church.

Empowering Gardeners and Volunteers

With our well-developed growing spaces, the wide variety of crops in the garden are a delight to the senses as the seeds sprout and summer unfolds. Our garden supplies season-long harvests of fresh, local food to year round and seasonal Island residents.

Our Garden

Volunteering and growing in our Garden Plots helps people build the skills and relationships needed to form a stronger community and provide healthy food for island people.

The last few years have presented our garden with unique challenges, but also opportunities to expand and serve our community’s needs for fresh, local food . Support our growing efforts and help us expand both food and financial security on Madeline Island.
