2024 Annual Board Meeting Updates
The MICG held the Annual Board Meeting on November 12th. It was a productive meeting and read more key highlights!
The MICG by-laws were amended to reflect our current processes and operational structure. Thanks Sarah Holst for doing the heavy lifting to get the changes made!
One key change to note is that rather than having a board president, we will have 2 co-chairs, each serving a two year term (the co-chair’s terms are staggered to foster continuity of knowledge and processes.
Current board members:
Sarah Holst and Kem Butler are serving as our co-chairs
Susan Garetz-will continue to be our Treasurer
Margie Frederickson-Secretary
Board Members at large are Alex Nelson and Anne Lacy
By-laws has been modified to clarify the various roles/relations that MI residents have at MICG:
Members are people who have paid for a MICG garden plot in current or past seasons and MICG board members. Friends of MICG, any resident of Madeline Island that are interested in MICG, friends are also welcome to the general membership meeting. Only members are entitled to a vote. A board member can be either a member of friend of the garden (meaning you do not have to be a current of past plot renter to become a board member).
Plans for the 2025 season were discussed and some of the top goals for next year include:
Improving and enlarging the herb garden - maybe even converting to raised beds!
Making available on-site organic compost for members that want to amend their plots
Amending the soil in the plots/greenhouse wherein crops are grown for the food shelf and in the community plot used by members for large plants (squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, etc.)
Potentially planting fruit trees in the triangle across the street from the library
Working closely with St. John’s food shelf committee to improve responsiveness to the community/food shelf summer produce needs.
If you have any questions of ideas you would like to offer, please contact Sarah Holst or Kem Butler,
